I am an illustrator.
My work is concerned with forging a narrative and creating a sense of curiosity and wonder. Curiosity can be piqued through creating historical illustrations, editorial images and any range of fictional impressions. The only limit is the imagination. My personal work focuses on the fantasy genre as that is where I can create with the greatest freedom and indulge my love of crafting stories, and also as a form of escapism. Long running series of programs, films and books attest to this desire to be engaged at a deeper, more meaningful level. As the author Ursula K. Le Guin quotes, “If the direction of escape is towards freedom. What then is ‘escapism’ an accusation of?”
What I endeavor to do with my art is to capture a sense of this escape from the way the world is, and reframe it as an exploration of what a world could be. I envision settings where people can be accepted as they are, where the environment is viewed as vital and where the fight to maintain these tenets is just.
